Day 4 of the Olympic Qualifier in Japan sees Malaysia play Switzerland in the opening match of the day, with Italy looking for success against Poland. Germany face Japan in the day’s final match, with the winner sealing their place in Sunday’s final.
Match 10: Malaysia v Switzerland– 12:00 (Local time)
After a poor performance against Italy on Day 2, Malaysia put in a vastly improved performance against Germany, but fell to defeat. Sadly, Switzerland are unable to reach the final due to losing all three of their previous matches, but the side are determined to cause a few upsets before heading home. Should Malaysia achieve victory - and if Japan lose their match against Germany this afternoon – a win against Japan in their final round-robin match on Saturday would be enough to give them a place in the final.
Match 11: Italy v Poland – 14:00
Poland fought back from a two goal deficit to defeat Switzerland on Day 3 to claim their first win of the tournament. They can still qualify, but will need a big victory in this game to massively boost their goal difference, before getting an unlikely result against current league leaders Germany. After a wonderful performance against Malaysia, Italy were well beaten by home favourites Japan on Day 3 but will be hoping to produce a good performance today.
Match 12: Germany v Japan – 16:00
This is undoubtedly the biggest match of the tournament so far, as the two sides with 100 per cent winning records come face to face. The form of penalty corner expert and current tournament top scorer Takahiko YAMABORI has been impressive, and Japan are also boosted by the vocal encouragement given by their passionate and colourful supporters. However, Germany are still clear favourites for the match having scored 21 and conceded zero goals in their first three matches.
